Ottawa
Mixed Media Installation

Sarah Jasmine Hodgson makes use of recent imaging technologies to create a time capsule that memorializes and celebrates her grandmother's life, offering a digital afterlife. The artist asked her grandmother to select sentimental objects that marked significant occasions, such as the passing down of family heirlooms, marriage, and gifts from loved ones. Each of these objects was then put through a 3D photogrammetry process, creating an accurate 3D model of the real world objects.

Hodgson then abstracts the renderings into fragments and collages these into abstract dilapidated forms. The act of abstraction evokes the dilapidation and alteration of human memory, forever subject to shift.

Sarah Jasmine Hodgson is an Ottawa based artist completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts student at the University of Ottawa, specializing in media art practices and photography. Her practice is focused on exploring new and alternative forms of preservation in the digital age.
