Louise Mercure
Montreal, Quebec
Mixed Media

"I create narrative spaces inspired by biology, anatomy and femininity and I am interested in the way in which the psyche perceives and constructs a certain reality by transposing it through the production of poetry and fiction. My work is mainly based on subjective experiences related to my experience, which I interpret with a playful attitude.

Often working in small series with various media on paper or digital prints, I am interested in pushing the images into spaces between these techniques. This practice, which also includes more abstract wood paintings, combines figurative and formal languages where images are characterized by the accumulation, transformation and assembly of various signs, shapes and textures.

Louise Mercure holds a master's degree in visual arts from UQÀM and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions (Montreal, Alma, Sherbrooke, Lausanne, Basel, Wiesbaden) and realized eight projects integrating the arts with architecture and the environment. She has received numerous scholarships (including the Atelier résidence du Québec in Basel, Switzerland) and major public and private collections have acquired her works, including the Collection Prêt d'œuvres d'art, Loto Québec, Air Canada, the Christoph Merian Foundation in Basel, the Fundacion Actilibre in Madrid and the Albertina Museum in Vienna.
